We're delighted with that performance, it's a great way to start the tournament

- Stuart Broad

England defeated Afghanistan by 116 runs to make an emphatic start to their ICC World Twenty20 title defence and seal their place in the Super Eights.

Put into bat by their opponents, England finished their innings 196 for five – their second highest total ever recorded in this format.

Afghanistan never got close to reaching that score and were dismissed for 80.

Stuart Broad and Jos Buttler both made fine contributions in the field and combined to great effect to remove Karim Sadiq.

"The way we struck the ball was powerful and excited to see," said Broad. "We're delighted with that performance, it's a great way to start the tournament.

"We will have a nice relaxed day on Saturday and will turn up fresh on Sunday for the India game. We will all be fired up and wanting a win."
