It’s always a great honour to pull on an England shirt, but to do so as vice-captain will, of course, be even more special

- Stuart Broad

Stuart Broad has been named vice-captain of the England Test side for the tour of India.

Broad, the Twenty20 captain, takes on the role from Alastair Cook, who has been promoted to captain following the retirement of Andrew Strauss.

"I’m delighted," said Broad, who is joined in the squad by ISM stablemates Jonny Bairstow and Joe Root. "It’s always a great honour to pull on an England shirt, but to do so as vice-captain will, of course, be even more special.

"It’s is a long time since England won a Test series in India, so we know it’s going to be tough. But it’s a challenge we’re all looking forward to. Our aim is to get back to being the number one side in the world but we know this only comes from doing well in major series like this one."

England's first match in the four-Test series gets under way in Ahmedabad on November 15.
