Atti, who is following in the footsteps of big brother Charl, made his professional debut in the Joburg Open in January 2008.

The Schwartzel boys' father, George was a fine amateur before himself spending time in the paid ranks. It was in their playing days that George and ISM founder Chubby Chandler met and became firm friends, with George later becoming coach to his sons and Chubby taking on their management duties.

Atti has won the Northern Open Amateur strokeplay (formerly the Transvaal Open) at Modderfontein and the Ekurhuleni Open at Benoni Lake, and represented South Africa in the All-Africa Challenge in Namibia.
