Irish born Paul McGinley had a bright future ahead of him in Gaelic football, until a broken knee cap ended his career at the age of 19. Paul turned to his other love, golf, and the rest is history.
Paul achieved his place in golfing folklore by holing the winning putt on his Ryder Cup debut in 2002. He has also played in each of the last two Ryder Cup triumphs, making him the first European golfer to be a winner in every one of his first three appearances.
McGinley has also enjoyed plenty of successes outside the team environment, with his victory in Europe's showpiece event, the 2005 Volvo Masters, representing the pick of his nine professional wins.
After a number of appearances on various teams throughout his career Paul was given the opportunity by the current Ryder Cup captain Colin Montgomerie, to captain a winning GB & I team at the 2009 Vivendi Trophy by Seve Ballesteros in Paris.
