For a player embarking on a career on the world’s fairways, it is a minefield. There are more mistakes to be made, not all of them on the golf course, than can possibly be imagined. I had 15 years of it and, believe me, I made all the mistakes - at least twice. I was known by some on the Tour as the man to go to for help with a cheap flight, a bargain hotel or even the best route to the next tournament. This experience helped me in my decision to start a management company. Through making mistakes I know the pitfalls to be wary of and it is now my job to help others to avoid them. By smoothing out the administrative, marketing and logistical difficulties for a player, he can concentrate 100% on his game without outside worries. It sounds simple, but I feel it is essential if he is to be successful.

Golf on tour is a job and it must be treated as such. There is no way that, faced with the amount of travel and practice required just to stay on the Tour, a player who, by definition, is not a business administrator, marketing executive or salesman, can keep his affairs in order or promote himself. Worrying about a tax return, hotel room or flight ticket is not helpful when you should be concentrating on your game. The quality of player in the International Sports Management stable and results they achieve demonstrates that our philosophy is right for them. When I started the firm we were a small family with four players. We have grown but I don't want to lose the feeling of being a family. It is how the company has always been and continues to work nicely.

Neil Fairbrother
Director of Cricket

Neil joined ISM when he retired from cricket at the end of 2002 and has guided the careers of some of the finest cricketers in the world including Andrew Flintoff, Steve Harmison and Michael Vaughan.

During his playing career he averaged over 40 for Lancashire and came close to completing a half-century of hundreds. He played 10 Test for England but is best remembered for his contribution to the England one-day side.

He scored more than 2,000 runs at an average of 39.47, establishing himself as one of the world's greatest limited over specialists as batsman and fielder.

Stuart Cage
Head of Golf

Stuart turned pro in 1993 after a stellar amateur career during which he played international golf in the same England team as Lee Westwood.

He won the English Amateur in 1992 and represented GB&I in the 1993 Walker Cup.

Following a ten-year career that yielded three pro victories, including the 1997 Cannes Open, Stuart was persuaded by his manager Chubby Chandler to work alongside him bringing his golfing experience to bear in a management capacity.

Ian Garbutt
Director of Player Development

Ian was a fixture on the European Tour and Challenge Tour for 16 years after turning pro in 1992.

As an amateur he won the 1989 English Boys Stroke Play Championship and the following year added the English Amateur title. He was a member of the Yorkshire County squad and represented England 12 times and GB&I in the St Andrews Trophy.

In 1996 Ian topped the Challenge Tour Order of Merit. He followed in the footsteps of Stuart Cage in 2008, making the leap from ISM client to manager.

Louis Martin
Player Manager, Golf

Louis was chief executive of the Sunshine Tour for five years from 1998 and held the same post on the Asian Tour for three years until 2006.

Louis, a mechanical engineer by profession, began his career in golf as a caddie on the European Tour in 1985 and six months later set up a sports management and marketing business in South Africa.

After leaving the Asian Tour Louis worked as an independent golf and sports management consultant before joining ISM in 2011.
